The Role

As a Junior Developer, you will be working within the Internal Development Team and report to the Technical Lead. The role involves supporting FDM’s IT Development Team on multiple national and international projects. The team primarily uses C# (knowledge of any Object Orientated languages will suffice) to build applications for the different departments of the business such as Finance, Recruitment and Academy. You will be involved in updating outdated software, supporting with the implementation of new technology and understanding current developments in the tech sector. Therefore, the ideal candidate will have a wide range of skill set including back-end, front-end and database experience/skills as well as a passion for keeping up to date with current trends.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Involvement in full SDLC including design, build and test of FDM’s IT systems
  • Working as a full-stack developer (database, back-end and front-end work)
  • Configurating applications and environments across a variety of business domains
  • Developing key internal applications that help support the wider business
  • Proactively monitoring and managing core development platforms to support the development pipeline
  • Gaining a thorough understanding of FDM’s business model

Essential Criteria

  • Degree discipline – studying Computer Science or similar; extensive amount of coding experience; looking to achieve a 2:1 classification 
  • Coding – experience with an Object Orientated programming language; C# is preferable but any other OO language will be acceptable 
  • Communication – excellent verbal and written communication, email writing and reporting skills; professional and outgoing approach 
  • Positive attitude – ability to work individually and collaboratively within the team and wider organisation; establish and maintain relationships across all levels of the organisation; value cultural and ethnic diversity
  • Results oriented – ability to prioritise and manage tasks/time in order to meet deadlines; great attention to detail, ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines; self-motivated, showing ownership and initiative
  • Problem solving – ability to apply logical and critical thinking in order to examine and analyse the information presented; using own initiative to find creative solutions
  • Values – embodying company’s values in their day-to-day life

Desirable Criteria

Familiarity with the following:

  • UNIX/Linux
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint)
  • SQL/databases (particularly Microsoft SQL Server & SQL Server Management Studio)
  • Unit testing frameworks (NUnit, NBuilder, FluentAssertions)
  • Continuous integration tools (Jenkins, SonarQube, Octopus, GIT)
  • Scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell, Bash)
  • Web technologies (e.g. HTML/CSS)
  • Front end frameworks/languages (e.g. JavaScript, React)
  • Design tools such as Adobe XD
